NY Jets Owner Will Pay Fines For Any Of His Players Who Protest The Anthem

As the NFL rolls out it's new National Anthem policy, New York Jets chairman Christopher Johnson said his team would not punish any player who protests. This new policy basically is saying that if players don't want to participate in standing during the national anthem, they can stay in the locker room. However, if they choose to appear on the field, they MUST stand or be fined by the league. But some team owners, like Christopher Johnson, will not let his players be penalized for protesting the anthem.

“I do not like imposing any club-specific rules,” Johnson told Newsday on Wednesday. “If somebody [on the Jets] takes a knee, that fine will be borne by the organization, by me, not the players. I never want to put restrictions on the speech of our players.”

“There are some big, complicated issues that we’re all struggling with, and our players are on the front lines. I don’t want to come down on them like a ton of bricks, and I won’t,” Johnson added. “There will be no club fines or suspensions or any sort of repercussions. If the team gets fined, that’s just something I’ll have to bear.”

“I have a really good relationship with the players, and I hope we can keep that going and I trust that we will,” he told the newspaper. “I’m so proud of our players and their efforts to date. I think that is the most important thing to get across. I could not be more proud of the guys.”

This, of course, all started in 2016..when former San Francisco 49ers quarterback Colin Kaepernick knelt during the national anthem to protest police violence against minorities and economic inequality. Many team players, opposing team players, and even players in the NBA started to kneel during the National Anthem which caused a stir..particularly with Trump, who by the way, is all for this new policy. He doesn't feel like players should even have the option to sit in the locker room..and those who do..don't belong in this county.

Colin Kaepernick has since been blackballed from the NFL & is having trouble getting signed, but he continues to train all while raising and donating money to different communities & charities.
