While everyone who tuned in to the big game on Sunday thought Justin Timberlake's Prince tribute was BEAUTIFUL and applauded him for his performance, Prince fans thought the complete opposite, even calling his performance DISRESPECTFUL to the late musician.
It all stems back to an interview Prince did back in '98. Prince sat down for an interview with Guitar World Magazine where they asked him how he felt about live performers being able to perform a duet using technology with someone who had passed away..and asking if he would ever consider doing something like that? Here's what he said..
"Certainly not. That's the most demonic thing imaginable. Everything is as it is, and it should be. If I was meant to jam with Duke Ellington, we would have lived in the same age. That whole virtual reality thing... it really is demonic. And I am not a demon. Also, what they did with that Beatles song ["Free As a Bird"], manipulating John Lennon's voice to have him singing from across the grave... that'll never happen to me. To prevent that kind of thing from happening is another reason why I want artistic control."
So when fans saw that Justin did EXACTLY THAT during his performance, they were disgusted!
But wait, THERE'S MORE!
Sinbad ALSO went off on J.T. about the drama between Justin & Prince back in 2006 when J.T. dropped "Sexy Back". Prince had popped a joke that sexy never left which apparently rubbed Justin the wrong way..and he responded with a diss verse in "Give It To Me" where he said "Don't hate on me just because you didn't come up with it." Timberlake pushed it even further at the Golden Globes where he decided to be EXTRA petty and lower Prince's mic to mock his height.
Sinbad called Justin a "punk ass" and wants him to apologize.
