According to reports, Bank of America just switched customers from using free online-only checking to accounts that require customers to keep a minimal balance! No more eBanking folks! :(
Customers, including myself *dramatic sigh in spanish*, will now be charged a $12 fee if accounts drop under $1,500 OR if there is no direct deposit of $250 or more a month.
“Banks have long grappled with how to charge customers for basic checking services,” The Wall Street Journal reports. “The accounts are costly for banks to maintain, though they do bring in revenue through overdraft and other fees.”
But let me tell you, CUSTOMERS ARE NOT HAPPY WITH THIS CHANGE! A petition has already been started with more than 52k signatures asking the bank to change things back to the way it was with free online banking. JUST REVERSE IT ALL!
Hopefully they will, or they may be losing some customers!
