Four-time major champion Rory McIlroy seemed to not recognize actor Tom Holland during an interaction at the 2024 BMW PGA Championship Pro-Am at Castle Pines Golf Club this week.
Holland, 28, approached McIlroy on the driving range and introduced himself in a video shared by DP World Tour's X account on Wednesday (September 18).
"Hello, mate, sorry I'm Tom," Holland said while extending his hand.
"Hi, Tom, how you doing?" McIlroy responded.
"It's a pleasure," Holland said.
"You alright?" McIlroy said.
"Yeah good, man, how are you?" Holland said.
"Yeah, I'm good man," McIlory said.
Golf Digest staff writer Christopher Powers reshared the video and wrote, "feels fair to say Rory McIlroy has absolutely no idea who Tom Holland is after watching this."
Holland teed off Wednesday morning alongside his brothers, actors Harry and Sam Holland, and pro golfer Tommy Fleetwood as the 1B group behind McIlroy, Welsh soccer star Gareth Bale and former English cricketer Stuart Broad.
McIlroy, 35, is currently No. 3 overall in the Official World Golf Ranking, behind only Americans Scottie Scheffler, the 2024 Masters Tournament champion and 2024 Paris Olympics gold medalist and Xander Schauffele, the 2024 PGA and Open champion. The Northern Ireland native won the Wells Fargo Championship and Hero Dubai Desert Classic and finished second at the U.S. Open in 2024.
