DeEbony Groves' Posthumous Degree Accepted By Mother In Nashville

Belmont University held their graduation ceremony over the weekend, and although there was a smile missing, EVERY degree was still given out. DeEbony Groves was supposed to walk with her class this past weekend, but she was, unfortunately, tragically slain along with 3 others inside a Waffle House right outside of Nashville. Just TWO WEEKS before graduation. Although she couldn't be there, she was in no way left out of the ceremony. Groves' mother, Shirl Baker, walked across the stage during the graduation ceremony to accept her daughter's degree. Groves studied social work at Belmont University and was a member of Delta Sigma Theta.

Belmont's President, Robert Fisher, made a statement before presenting the degree to her mother:

"Almost two weeks ago, our community suffered an unimaginable loss," he continued, "While our hearts were broken, today we have the chance to celebrate DeEbony's life together."

Groves' brother, Di'Angelo, also received his degree..and got standing ovations from everyone in attendance as he and Baker walked across the stage together during the graduation ceremony.

R.I.P. DeEbony Groves, 21, Taurean Sanderlin, 29, Akilah DaSilva, 23, & Joe Perez, 20 - forever in our hearts!
