Pop Smoke's Murder May Have Been 'A Targeted Hit,' Not Robbery Gone Wrong

2019 Rolling Loud LA

Pop Smoke’s murder may have been “a targeted hit," not a robbery gone awry.

According to TMZ, newly-surfaced surveillance video footage from outside the rising rapper’s Hollywood Hills home appears to suggest the men who broke into his house were plotting to take his life, not his belongings. As sources explained to the outlet, four men snuck around the back of Smoke’s residence around 4:30 a.m. on Wednesday (February 19), then three of them returned to the front while the fourth stood out of sight near the back door.

The next time the fourth suspect appears on cam is when he’s seen exiting through the front door after multiple shots had been let off inside the house, which fatally wounded Smoke, who was later pronounced dead after being rushed to Cedars-Sinai Medical Center. He was 20 years old.

What’s more, insiders who saw the footage also pointed out that the fourth guy fled the scene with the others, but left out empty-handed. Considering Smoke was flaunting gifts with a friend on social media hours before meeting his tragic fate — one item allegedly revealed his home address — it was believed the gang was plotting a heist, but the surveillance clip seems to show even crueler intentions.

The rising rapper, whose Bashar Barakah Jackson, gained attention for his 2019 single “Welcome to the Party,” which was co-signed with a remix by Nicki Minaj. Before his passing, Smoke had unveiled his second mixtape, Meet The Woo 2, and had also filmed a movie called Boogie.

In the wake of the tragedy, hip-hop stars like Minaj, 50 Cent, Quavo, Chance the Rapper and others have taken to social media to mourn the up-and-coming emcee.
